Maxim Integrated just introduced a new reference design based on the MAX11254, a 24bit, 6-channel Delta-Sigma ADC with programmable amplifer, used to read out four force sensors. With this system, touch events can be detected on a surface, even if gloves are used.
This could be an interesting option for environments, where protective handgear is used or special requirements are imposed on the touch surface. Drawback is the lack of multitouch.
